Job Overview Boundary Masters Land Surveying is seeking a Land Surveyor Assistant to join our team in Lufkin, Texas. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support with land surveys, collecting field data, performing research, and preparing maps and plats. This role requires an understanding of land surveying principles and techniques, as well as proficiency in using various surveying equipment and software. This opportunity is optimal for someone interested in pursuing, or currently in pursuit, of licensure as a Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) with the desire of becoming a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in Texas.

Duties

  • Operate, maintain, and utilize Trimble GPS technology to precisely collect survey data and record measurements.
  • Physically search for field evidence and buried property corners using magnetic locator and shovel.
  • Set property corners and stakes using a hammer.
  • Regularly use a machete to clear brush around points of interest and/or property boundary lines.
  • Conduct records research pertaining to property boundaries and perform deed plotting using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Assist with preparation of boundary surveys, land title surveys, topographic surveys, mortgage loan surveys, easements, and legal descriptions under the guidance of professional surveyor.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and survey standards during fieldwork.

Skills & Experience

  • Dependable and self-motivated.
  • Must have proven experience in land surveying.
  • Proficiency in data collection techniques and the use of GPS equipment.
  • Proficiency or working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency or working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with Trimble products is a plus.
  • Experience with GIS is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects at one time, and execute a planned workload.
  • Problem solving skills and paying attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
  • Ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations and adhere company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Familiar with basic surveying principles and equipment.
  • Associates in land surveying or equivalent experience required.
  • 1 year minimum land surveying experience.
  • B.S. Degree in land surveying is a plus.
  • Desire to obtain Texas Surveyor-in-Training license, with aspirations of becoming a Texas Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Must have knowledge in GPS survey methods, electronic data collection, the processes and computer programs necessary for survey data review and transfer to mapping.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work autonomously and/or in a team environment while ready to assume additional or new responsibilities.
  • Willingness to learn new technical skills and adapt to changing technologies.
  • Traveling locally between projects and an office environment is required.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license with a clean driving record required. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • Physical requirements include working outdoors in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered. May be required to lift and/or or carry up to 50 lbs.
