Our more than 2.4 million acres of timberland in the Western United States are sustainably managed by professionals in our Forestry Division. Currently, our North Sierra Area has an opening for a qualified Vegetation Management Specialist. The successful applicant is expected to work out of either our Stirling District office located in Chico, California or our Tahoe District office located in Grass Valley, California.

About the Position

  • Develop and implement strategic fuel breaks as part of a comprehensive network
  • Maintain existing fuel breaks through vegetation treatments including herbicide application, mastication, controlled burns and animal browsing/grazing
  • Actively participate in collaborative groups
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with agencies, organizations, and adjacent landowners
  • Plan and implement roadside vegetation treatments and develop contractors to accomplish the work
  • Maintain GIS database of activities and treatments
  • Assist with reforestation activities and Timber Harvest Plan (THP) preparation and operations including resource surveys, timber marking, logging, and road construction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Agriculture, or equivalent related work experience
  • Ability to obtain a California Pest Control Advisors (PCA) license “Weed” category and a - QAL license with “Right of way” and “Forest” category
  • Working experience with herbicides commonly used in right of way applications and forestry applications
  • Strong work ethic
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS-based software programs
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Current valid drivers’ license and the ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicle and safely negotiate steep mountainous roads
