GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Fieldwork in the Galveston Bay Estuary and nearshore Gulf of America includes fishery-independent sampling using bag seines, trawls, oyster dredges, and longlines as well as potentially other fishery sampling gears. Sampling will be done aboard skiffs and our larger research vessels. Fishery-dependent data is collected at area boat ramps. This position is fieldwork intensive, so if you like to be outside boating and, on the water, gaining valuable experience with a great group of people, then this position is for you.
Fisheries Management internship positions will perform routine fish and wildlife conservation work in the Galveston Bay ecosystem and nearshore waters of the Gulf of America including assisting in the collection, recording, and editing of fishery-independent data using various sampling gears while onboard skiffs and larger research vessels. They will also assist with collecting fishery-dependent data during creel surveys at area boat ramps. Operates equipment safely under the supervision of trained staff.
