GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Sea Center is announcing two internship positions for availability. This internship is specific to the Sea Center Hatchery. This internship is learning and labor intensive. Interns are trained as a member of the hatchery team and will gain experience in life support systems, fish husbandry, analytical equipment use, outdoor pond production, teamwork, and other everyday and unique hatchery tasks. Most of the internship will be within the hours of 7 AM - 4 PM. Interns will also work a few days of pond harvests (5 PM - 2 PM), early shift (4 or 5 AM - 1 or 2 PM) and possible nights (1 or 2 PM - 10 or 11 PM). Unique opportunities may include work days longer than 8 hours, but will not exceed 40 hours in a week.

Marine Enhancement internship positions will, under the supervision of the Hatchery Manager, be responsible for fish hatchery stock enhancement. Assists Hatchery staff in the propagation and distribution of marine finfish throughout the coastal waters of Texas. Duties include collecting, tabulating, and entry of hatchery records; fish culture operations; and stock enhancement program work. Operates equipment safely under close supervision and maintains gear, equipment, and facility.
