Description
The Staff Forester / Woodland Ecologist I serves as point of contact for urban water resources BMP program in East Texas. They will deliver effective education, outreach, and technical assistance on various topics, including but not limited to: Best Management Practices, forest-water relationship, riparian management/restoration, ground water management and post-fire restoration/recovery. Actively engage in water resource stakeholder meetings. Coordinate water resource activities with other groups. Conduct innovative, educational outreach programs.
Responsibilities:
- Voluntary BMP implementation - cycle planning & field inspections.
- Water Resources Education, Outreach and Technical Assistance
- Enhance partnerships/Coordinate program activities/Participate in stakeholder meetings.
- Technical writing and public speaking.
- Support other agency program delivery.
- Firefighter and other emergency response support functions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions: This job may require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes. It may also require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling lifting and carrying heavy objects. May require driving motor vehicles on and off road for long distances. May require travel in State vehicles with overnight stays. May require extended communication with the general public and employees in person, by phone or electronically. May require extensive organization and team-building skills as well as extensive computer skills.

Education and Experience: Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related natural resources field. Preferred Education: Master's degree in Forestry or related natural resources field
Required Experience: Experience in forestry or land management Preferred Experience: Hydrology/watershed management experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required Knowledge: MS Office, GIS Preferred Knowledge: iTree software, watershed modeling
Required Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills
Required Abilities: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: Required: Valid Texas driver’s license.
Preferred: SAF Certified Forester. ISA Certified Arborist
Other Requirements: Active in professional organizations.
