Friends of the late Danny Thomas Prado , 1972 SFA graduate and career music educator, want to establish a scholarship in his honor for students pursuing a degree in music or music education. Danny, 73, died Oct. 12, 2023.
Danny taught professionally for 34 years, including in Jacksonville, Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Grapevine-Colleyville ISDs, where he retired in 2005. His many years of teaching saw countless first divisions in both playing and marching. Following his retirement, he remained an active consultant, clinician and free-lance musician. He was a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and past president of Alpha Chapter of the International Bandmasters’ Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu.
In 2013, Danny was presented the Outstanding Music Alumnus Award by SFA’s School of Music. From October 2016 to May 2017, he served as the GCISD interim fine arts director overseeing all music, art, secondary theater and secondary dance education throughout the district.
Danny considered his induction into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 2017 the highlight of his career, stating the relationships and connections he made with former students, colleagues and friends that influenced him to be the most profound gift during his journey in music.
