Larry Dean Ward, 72, passed away Sept. 25, 2024, surrounded by family. Born April 29, 1952, in Overton, Texas, Larry's passion for music began at age 12 and led to a distinguished 39-year career as a band director. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in composition from SFA in 1974 and 1976, respectively, where he shaped countless young musicians, some of whom have become notable music educators and performers.

Throughout his career, Larry inspired students with his exceptional talent and dedication, leading his bands to numerous awards and accolades. He was known for his ability to create captivating performances that combined precision and artistry. Even after retirement, he continued to support local music programs, sharing his expertise and love for music with the next generation.

Visitation will be held Sept. 29, 2024, at Woodlands Hills Baptist Church followed by a Celebration of Life Service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Larry's honor to SFA to help continue his legacy.
