Dr. Odis Rhodes Memorial Scholarship

  • Goal: $25,000
  • $30,830
  • 123% funded
  • 52 donors

The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity’s Iota Mu Chapter seated at SFA are establishing a memorial scholarship endowment honoring the late Dr. Odis O. Rhodes, who was a distinguished Alpha Man and servant leader.

The first African American professor at SFA, Rhodes left an incredible legacy. He was a lifelong educator, graduating with his bachelor’s degree from Wiley College, master’s degree from Texas Southern University and doctoral degree from the University of Houston. He completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Indiana.

Rhodes came to SFA in 1968, serving as a reading and language arts professor. He initially taught in small student groups, but as his popularity grew as an educator, his classroom filled, eventually reaching capacity. He was a friend, mentor and father figure to those who needed him. His joy was influencing the lives of his students and watching them succeed.

Rhodes died April 17, 2015. The Dr. Odis Rhodes Memorial Scholarship was established to honor his legacy and love for higher education.

Through your contributions, you are helping continue his legacy at SFA. Please consider making a donation today.
