Pat Spence Scholarship for The Pine Log

Friends of the late Pat Spence, a 1987 SFA graduate and long-time advisor for The Pine Log student newspaper, are encouraged to honor her memory by raising funds for the Pat Spence Scholarship for The Pine Log fund. Pat passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 15, 2024.
Pat was revered by many past and present students as the matriarch of SFA's student publications department. She led the publications to tremendous heights for 28 years from 1986 to 2014. During SFA’s centennial year, Pat was quoted in Sawdust magazine saying, "My fondest memories are with all my kids. All of the honors and awards don't mean anything without those kids and their successes. That's what we were there for — to get them to a place in their lives where they could be happy and make a living."
The Pat Spence Scholarship for The Pine Log was established in 2014. Funds for the scholarship are being raised by friends, former students and Pat’s advisees. The scholarship is awarded to currently enrolled students who are mass communication and/or art majors.
