Stephen F. Austin State University’s “Discovering Business Abroad” program is SFA’s first study-abroad program available to incoming first-year students. The business- and entrepreneurship-focused program hosted by the Rusche College of Business combines an international trip, a course and meetings with local business founders. Students who complete the program:
- earn three hours of college credit
- visit local businesses in destinations including Estonia and Finland; past cohorts have also explored Costa Rica and Croatia
- and connect with students and faculty before they arrive at SFA.
Whether a student becomes an employee, employer or entrepreneur/founder, “Discovering Business” aims to equip the student with knowledge and tools for success.
“Up until going on this trip, I wasn’t 100% sure how college would be,” said Ryan Bledsoe, first-year student from Lumberton. “I was worried about making friends and moving to a completely new place. Now that I have been on this trip and met so many amazing people, I feel much more prepared for the social aspect of college.”
“This trip helped open my eyes not only to the business world but also to creating relationships with my peers,” said Rian Bartley, first-year student from Lake Dallas. “I always wanted to study abroad, and I’m so glad it was with SFA. Not many people have the opportunity to do what we got to do, but I am very grateful I had the chance and I’m thankful to the college for doing something like this, especially for incoming freshmen.”
We need your help to ensure students like Ryan and Rian can take advantage of this opportunity to gain real-world experience around the globe. Your donations will help us create scholarships to subsidize these trips of a lifetime.
