Build Four Tiny Homes for $88,000 (cost of one home $22,000)
The School of Human Sciences at SFA offers degree programs in construction management and interior design. These programs incorporate experiential learning activities as part of the curriculum.
One example of this is SFA’s collaboration with The Village Nac , which is a 21-acre property that offers transitional and permanent housing to qualifying applicants, including those with a mental health impairment or homelessness. As part of the partnership, SFA human sciences students assisted in the construction of four tiny homes in fall 2022 to serve Village residents.
SFA’s construction management is seeking sponsorship for the purchase of enough materials to build one to four homes each year. The approximate cost of materials for each home is $22,000, which includes all building materials, plumbing fixtures, flooring, electrical and built-ins. The students will provide the labor to build a tiny home of approximately 234 square feet. It will include a bedroom, bathroom, living area and kitchenette.
Your gift will:
- provide students with hands-on opportunities to collaboratively construct a home
- assist in providing a home for someone in need of shelter
- allow students to gain a greater understanding of field experience in construction
- and provide an opportunity for community and corporate involvement.
Our sponsorship levels offer a range of options to fit a variety of budgets, including in-kind donations to purchase materials. Community members can donate monetarily, or companies can donate products.
