Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPHE)
April 8, 2021 - 11 a.m.

Office of the President seal header

We are pleased to announce members of the Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) community have recently led the charge in establishing an East Texas chapter of the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPHE).

TABPHE is a statewide, voluntary, educational association that represents all levels of higher education and serves as a voice for Black faculty, staff, students and administrators to ensure a better educational experience for all. TABPHE provides avenues for professional development opportunities that enrich higher education personnel and improve the quality of their professional growth.

The East Texas Chapter is currently comprised of members from SFA, Angelina College, Jarvis Christian College, Kilgore College, Panola College, Texas A&M Texarkana, UT Tyler and Wiley College. The chapter is planning programs focused on higher education career development, campus connection and community involvement throughout the year. The annual TABPHE Conference is the highlight of the year for the organization. Attendees are equipped, empowered, supported and refreshed by the organization’s commitment to providing opportunities for networking and strengthening voices which have historically been silenced in educational settings.

The only requirement for TABPHE membership is a dedication to higher education issues and the betterment of the educational experience for all. All SFA employees who wish to join this organization are welcome and encouraged to do so, no matter what position they hold. The spirit of TABPHE supports excellence and community across all job types for those who are committed to the success of ethnic minorities in institutions of higher education. Managers are encouraged to allow employees who join to attend chapter meetings, events and the annual conference as professional development (with no need to use their personal paid time off). Chapter meetings will be the first Thursday of the month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Membership dues are $40 per year, and annual conference fees are discounted for members. To learn more about TABPHE, visit http://www.tabphe.org/. Join online or contact an SFA Chapter Officer (below).
