Departure of director of athletics
Feb. 23, 2024 - 9:44 a.m.
Dear Lumberjacks,
Ryan Ivey, who has served as the director of athletics since July 2018, will be departing Stephen F. Austin State University to embark on a new opportunity at Louisiana Tech as the Vice President and Director of Athletics. His departure is scheduled for mid-March.
During his tenure, Ryan has played a pivotal role in enhancing the stature and success of our athletic programs. His leadership and vision have led to numerous achievements, notably the successful transition of SFA into the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), enhancing our competitive landscape and national exposure. Under his guidance, we also saw the completion of the Loddy Naymola Basketball Performance Center, a significant boost in donor engagement and financial contributions, and improvements in the game-day atmosphere and overall student experience at athletic events. These efforts have contributed significantly to the university's spirit and community.
I plan to announce an interim appointment soon, along with the process to identify a permanent successor who can continue to build on the success of Ryan and his team. We aim to find a leader who can further strengthen the programs that Ryan has advanced.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Ryan for his commitment and contributions to SFA athletics. Please join me in wishing him all the best in his new role.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this period of transition and excitement as we prepare for the arrival of SFA’s next permanent president.
Axe 'em, Jacks,
Gina Oglesbee
Interim President
