After a very competitive national search, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Lorenzo Smith will be joining the SFA leadership team as Provost and Executive Vice President. Dr. Smith is currently professor and dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Sacramento. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a master’s from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan; and a doctorate in engineering mechanics from Michigan State University.
Dr. Smith will begin his duties on June 1 and is very excited about joining SFA.
I want to thank the search committee for their hard work in identifying such strong finalists. I would also like to thank the campus community for the clear and concise feedback on each of the candidates. Over spring break, I spent a significant amount of time reviewing candidate files, backgrounds and campus evaluations. Additionally, I was able to discuss the finalists with various constituent groups. This feedback was tremendously valuable in selecting the next provost and executive vice president.
A more detailed public announcement with information on Dr. Smith’s background will be released shortly.
