Nov. 8, 2024 - 4 p.m.

SFA One Line Wordmark w/UT System

Dear campus community,

We are writing to provide a final update regarding the recent report involving a social media video in which an individual used deeply offensive, racist language.

While we cannot share specific outcomes of the investigations conducted through our campus police department and Dean of Students Office due to privacy regulations under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we have taken every action allowed under university policies. Our commitment to upholding a respectful and safe environment is unwavering, and we have responded decisively within the framework of our policies to reinforce this standard. We appreciate the patience of our community as we worked through this matter.

We recognize the public harm this video has caused and the pain it has triggered within our campus and online communities. SFA is committed to addressing all instances of hateful, vile language to the full extent that our university policies allow. We want to reiterate that such actions are fundamentally opposed to our university’s values of respect and integrity.

As we move forward together, we encourage anyone who may need support to reach out to the resources available on campus. SFA’s Counseling Services provides confidential support to students. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can be reached by calling (936) 468-4482.

Every Lumberjack deserves a safe, supportive environment to live, learn and pursue their dreams. Building a culture of mutual respect is a shared responsibility, and we encourage everyone to come together in support of one another. Thank you for your commitment to upholding the values that make our campus community strong.
