Dr. Gary Wurtz Appointed Dean

Colleagues,
I am pleased to appoint Dr. Gary Wurtz as the new Dean of the Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts. I would like to thank the dean’s search committee and all who participated in the interviews and provided feedback. Your service is appreciated.
Dr. Wurtz has 30 years of service to SFA, joining our faculty in 1992. He served as professor of trumpet from 1992 until 2016. From 2016 through 2021 Dr. Wurtz served as the director of the SFA School of Music and has served as interim dean of the college since July 1, 2021. In other words, he has an intimate understanding of the college and the potential it holds for the future.
