MLK – three initials that symbolize an abundance of history and reflection. Belonging to the iconic leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the letters now symbolize the contributions of a man who unequivocally stood for justice for all people. His life and legacy were those of non-violence, progression of civil rights and encouragement of racial understanding and equality.
On this day of service, we choose to honor his legacy by seeking peace, confronting forces of ignorance and hate with the power of love and embracing all humankind. We can be inspired by Dr. King’s own words: “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”
As we commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we must do so by learning to respect each other’s differences and uniting in service. We truly honor his legacy as we seek to lift up those less fortunate and build a better society for all.
