Dear campus community,

We wanted to make you aware that the university is actively investigating a report involving a social media video in which an individual uses racist language. The language used in this video is vile, repulsive and deeply offensive, and we want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously. We were made aware of the video this morning and took immediate action to address it. An incident report has been filed with our campus police department, and an investigation is underway through the Dean of Students Office to determine whether the individual in the video is an SFA student and next steps for addressing this.

We want to reaffirm that SFA unequivocally condemns all forms of racism and hate. Such actions are entirely contrary to our university’s core values. We are committed to a thorough investigation and will take appropriate actions as warranted by our policies.

While we recognize the need for transparency, please understand that federal privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), protect the confidentiality of individual educational records, which limits our ability to discuss specifics regarding student matters. However, we are committed to updating the community as we are able, in alignment with our policies and legal obligations.

We know this incident has impacted our campus, and we are here to support you. Students seeking support may contact our Counseling Services office. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached by calling (936) 468-4482. We encourage anyone with information to report it to the Dean of Students Office at dos@sfasu.edu. Let’s continue to foster a campus environment where every individual feels safe, respected and valued.
