Dear Lumberjacks,

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional leadership within our university community, I wish to share an important transition within the Division of Student Affairs.

Carrie Charley, who has served with distinction as our interim vice president for student affairs for the past year, will be leaving SFA to embrace a new professional opportunity as associate vice president of campus services at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her contributions, especially in the realms of campus living, dining and auxiliaries, have been invaluable, and her leadership over the past year has been instrumental in advancing our student affairs initiatives.

Effective March 18, Dr. Michara DeLaney-Fields will assume the role of SFA's interim vice president for student affairs, as well as overseeing campus living, dining and auxiliary enterprises. She will continue administrative oversight of the Office of Title IX. Dr. DeLaney-Fields brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served as interim VP of student affairs after Dr. Steve Westbrook retired in 2020. She is currently serving as special advisor to the president and has served in other leadership roles at SFA since June 2019. Her dedication to our university's mission and her profound understanding of the student experience make her exceptionally suited to lead our Division of Student Affairs forward.

Please join me in thanking Carrie for her dedicated service and in supporting Dr. DeLaney-Fields as she transitions into her new role. Together, we continue to strive towards creating an environment that fosters academic excellence, personal growth and community engagement.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration during this transition period.

Axe ‘em, Jacks,

Gina Oglesbee
Interim President
