This week marks the recognition of Black History Month, established to celebrate, recognize and educate about Black and African American contributions to history.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a Black History Month Celebration on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at the Baker Patillo Student Center’s Grand Ballroom. The theme of the event is “My Voice is My Power” and it will showcase Black voices through art, dance, music and fashion and a discussion of how history has shaped the Black voice.

I am proud of SFA’s commitment to see and celebrate revolutionaries and change agents who should never go unnoticed, unheard of or forgotten. We are grateful for both ordinary and exceptional individuals who dedicated themselves to improving life for themselves, those around them and generations to come.

While we are grateful for this month of celebration, we must make these recognitions a constant and consistent practice that extend beyond February and become vital threads of acknowledgment interwoven into our institution's fabric.

As we continue to celebrate the past, present and future of so many that have advanced the culture, industry and society, let's continue working towards endless possibilities.

Sincerely,

Scott Gordon

President
