Lumberjacks GROW program to help students in future careers
GROW

Faculty and staff who oversee student employees are encouraged to invite them to participate in Lumberjacks Guided Reflection on Work.

Students who work on campus are learning valuable skills that are transferable to their future careers, but often need assistance identifying and articulating those experiences to prepare for future interviews.

Lumberjacks GROW offers students the opportunity to articulate these experiences, with the added benefit of professional feedback on their interview performance.

The program, administered by the Center for Career and Professional Development, involves a short survey and a virtual mock interview, which gathers information on the student's experience in five key areas: teamwork, communication, influence, decision-making and organization. Students will receive feedback on their interview within five business days.

The instructions for how to take part in Lumberjacks GROW can be found here.

For more information, contact Jamie Bouldin, CCPD director, at jfbouldin@sfasu.edu, or call the CCPD at (936) 468-3305.

A special screening of a film by William E. Arscott, filmmaking professor, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

“Hoorah” was filmed across portions of the Southwestern United States between 1975 and 1976 on 16mm color film stock with a crew of SFA students. Described as a “poetic documentary,” it examines the vanishing American Indian culture at that time and the rise of the “white face,” according to Peyton Paulette, filmmaking adjunct faculty member and chair of the Friends of the Visual Arts film committee.

“This will be the first time this film has been screened for a public audience, and it’s the first time the final finished film has been screened in color,” Paulette said. “Previous screenings have been in black and white.”

For more information, call (936) 468-1131.
