Lisa Stone, director of student services and advising
|
|
Lisa Stone has served in a variety of capacities during her time with the university, but as director of student services and advising in the James I. Perkins College of Education, she plays an integral role in helping students overcome obstacles on their way to graduation.
Stone has worked at the university for almost 37 years. She serves on various committees and is instrumental in developing partnerships between the College of Education and community colleges. In addition, she helps create a positive work culture that attracts and supports high quality staff members, said Dr. Stacy Hendricks, associate dean of the college.
“Lisa has gained the respect of all those around her,” Hendricks said. “When she speaks, others trust her and listen to her.”
Stone strives to ensure the advising center is always evolving to meet students’ needs and recently received a President’s Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding work.
“I like the planning that goes with moving our advising center forward and growing it,” she said. “I never want us to get stagnant, and I want us to be on the cutting edge of all things advising.”

SFA to screen ‘Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story’
SFA’s School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
Directed by Alexandra Dean, “Bombshell” brings to light the story of an unusual and accomplished woman, spurned as too beautiful to be smart, but a role model to this day.
Hedy Lamarr, the glamour icon whose ravishing visage was the inspiration for Snow White and Cat Woman, was a technological trailblazer who perfected a secure radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes during World War II.
In the film, Dean weaves interviews and clips with never-before-heard audio tapes of Lamarr speaking on the record about her incredible life.
The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St. For more information, call (936) 468-1131.
