History faculty members contribute to, edit collection of essays
Lone Star

Drs. Paul Sandul and Scott Sosebee, associate professors of history, contributed to and edited the recently published book of essays, “Lone Star Suburbs, Life on the Texas Metropolitan Frontier.”

This collection of essays supports the claim that Texas is not only primarily suburban, but also the most representative example of this urban form in the United States.

The essays consider transportation infrastructure, urban planning and professional sports as they relate to the suburban ideal; the experiences of African Americans, Asian Americans and Latinos in Texas metropolitan areas; and the environmental consequences of suburbanization.

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
SFA Charter School receives accreditation as internship training site

SFA is proud to announce the first-time accreditation of the SFA Charter School as a school psychology doctoral internship training site by the American Psychological Association.

Granted accreditation in July, this internship program expands the school psychology doctoral program’s dedication to train students based on empirically supported best practices, ultimately leading to licensure as school psychologists and licensed psychologists. It also helps to enhance the mental health status of Deep East Texas children.

During the accreditation process, the SFA Charter School received several accolades, including recognition by Niche as the 2018-19 No. 1 charter elementary school in Texas. It also was given an A in accountability by the Texas Education Agency in 2019 and an A-superior by the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas.

School of Theatre to present student-directed ‘These Shining Lives’ scenes

SFA’s School of Theatre will present scenes from the student-directed play “These Shining Lives” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in the Downstage Theatre.

The play chronicles the strength and determination of four women, considered expendable in their day, who worked in a factory in the 1920s.
