ACCOMPLISHMENTS
SFA staff members created online advising form
Stone and Cole

Lisa Stone, director of advising in the James I. Perkins College of Education, and Sara Cole, lead academic supervisor within the college, in conjunction with Information Technology Services, created an online advising form to help streamline the advising process for advisors, students, faculty and staff.

The results proved it to be advantageous for stakeholders within the college. Stone and Cole recently presented the online advising form in a technology laboratory at the National Academic Advising Association annual conference.

Dr. Gina Causin, associate professor of hospitality
Causin

Causin was recently elected president of the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas during its annual meeting in Glen Rose.

She will work with educators at the secondary- and higher-education levels to promote hospitality throughout the state.

Dr. Stephen Mullin, professor and chair of the Department of Biology

Mullin recently received a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant for his proposal “Assessing the Population Status of Brazos River Watersnakes.”

Mullin’s study will provide an updated understanding of the occurrence and demography of this snake species throughout its range. Brazos River watersnakes are endemic to Texas and have one of the smallest distributions among snakes that occur in North America. Grants from the agency are focused on wildlife conservation and are funded through the purchase of Wild for Texas Collection license plates.

FINE ARTS
School of Theatre to present ‘Pullman, WA’

SFA’s School of Theatre will present the play “Pullman, WA” at 7:30 p.m. tonight and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Downstage Theatre.

Dr. Slade Billew, assistant professor of acting and movement for the School of Theatre, directs the one-act play by Young Jean Lee. “Pullman, WA” is about three ordinary people who try (and fail) to give a life-changing self-help seminar.

“It’s a play about the culture of ‘influencers’ who tell others how to live their best life while struggling to not fall apart themselves,” Billew said. The play is recommended for mature audiences.

Tickets are $4. For tickets or more information, call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 468-6407, or visit theatre.sfasu.edu.

School of Theatre to present Shakespeare’s ‘Titus Andronicus’
Titus

When the School of Theatre faculty members chose William Shakespeare’s male character-dominated play “Titus Andronicus” for this year’s Mainstage Series, it was in response to the all-female show, “The Wolves,” that had filled the first Mainstage run for the fall semester.

Although “Titus Andronicus” has been described as one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest plays, Cleo House Jr., director of the School of Theatre and this play’s director, sees it as one of The Bard’s “most fun plays,” he said, adding he believes it “encapsulates all the things we love about the theatre.”

“Titus Andronicus” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Nov. 12 through 16, in Turner Auditorium.
