Human sciences faculty and students continue to serve Jo’s Diner patrons
Hope Express

A partnership established by the School of Human Sciences food, nutrition and dietetics program with Helping Other People Eat Pantry and Jo’s Diner is ramping up this spring.

Partially funded by a grant from the Moody Foundation, the Jo’s Diner soup kitchen opened in July at HOPE Pantry. The grant required nutrition education with each meal. FND clinical instructors Justin Pelham and Sarah Drake and their students helped meet that need through Cooking Matters classes and other events beginning in fall 2018.

This semester, human sciences faculty and students will prepare and serve 50 meals to Jo's Diner patrons on the first, second and fourth Wednesdays of the month beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Lumberjack Express mobile food lab will travel to Jo's Diner on the fourth Wednesday of the month to provide extra food preparation space.

To learn how to volunteer at Jo’s Diner, email Dr. Donna Fickes at fickesdj@sfasu.edu.

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Michara Delaney-Fields, SFA’s newly-appointed assistant dean of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The sixth annual Diversity Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. Check-in and on-site registration will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
