Dr. Jamie Weaver: making education achievable for all

Dr. Jamie Weaver serves as an associate professor of musicology. She began teaching at SFA in 2008.

“I believe education should be achievable for anyone who has a passion for learning, and the passion and talent of SFA’s students have inspired me to keep exploring ways to serve them better,” Weaver said. “I am honored to receive this award from the outstanding, dedicated faculty within the College of Fine Arts.”

Weaver is the recipient of this year's Teaching Excellence Award for the College of Fine Arts.

This is one in a series of 2021 Teaching Excellence Award features.

Former provost passes away

We are saddened to inform the SFA community that former provost Mary Cullinan passed away May 3.

Many faculty and staff will remember her time at SFA where she served as provost, vice president of academic affairs and professor of English from 2003 to 2006.

Our community is diminished by this loss.

Physical Plant Department to host blood drive tomorrow

SFA’s Physical Plant Department is hosting a blood drive from 12:30 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's Donor Coach, which will be located in front of the Physical Plant on Wilson Drive.

A free COVID-19 antibody test will be provided for all successful donations. For more information about antibody testing, click here.

Donors also will receive a free T-shirt. To sign up to donate, click here.

Students to host plant sale on campus

SFA's horticulture program will host a spring plant sale from noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow and Friday, May 14, at the SFA Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.

Plants available for purchase include a variety of houseplants, succulents, tropical plants and spring annuals. All proceeds support future educational projects in SFA’s horticulture program.

COVID-19 protocols will be in place to help ensure a safe shopping environment. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Anglley appointed new director of bands
Anglley

Dr. Tamey Anglley has been appointed director of bands for the SFA School of Music.

Anglley will succeed Dr. David Campo following his announced retirement effective June 30 following this year’s summer band camps at SFA. Anglley said she is looking forward to “continuing the legacy and great reputation of the SFA School of Music and band program.”

“We are known throughout the state for our outstanding artist educators, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to this, albeit in a new role,” she said. “I also am excited about conducting our Wind Ensemble, continuing to build the ensemble’s résumé through regional, national and international performances, and showcasing the tremendous musicians we have here in the SFA School of Music.”
