ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Bidisha Sengupta, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry

Sengupta recently served as the distinguished speaker for the International Webinar on Preventative Physiology at West Bengal State University. The lecture was attended by predoctoral and doctoral students, professors and scientists.

Angela Bacarisse, professor in the School of Theatre

Bacarisse presented "Clothing Style and Culture; Re-Conceiving how we teach clothing history" at the Conference on New Directions in the Humanities, a virtual conference hosted by the Complutense University of Madrid.

The presentation defines the shape of clothing, connecting climate with the development of technology and diversifying and moving away from the traditional study of the history of clothing.

Dr. Lauren E. Burrow, associate professor of education studies

Burrow was recently awarded the Education Studies Research and Creative Activities Award.

The award is selected by peers based on a submitted research narrative and evidence of research productivity from the past five years.

Join the SFA Alumni Association for food, drinks, live music, children’s activities and tons of tailgate fun at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Alumni Corner, followed by the SFA football game vs. the Tarleton State University Texan Riders set for 6 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium.

You also will have an opportunity to take photos with the SFA Lumberjack and Lenny the Lumberjack at the pregame party.

Professional Academic Advising Council next week

Faculty members and professional advisors are invited to the Professional Academic Advising Council meeting scheduled for 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, via Zoom.

First Faculty Senate meeting next week

The first regularly scheduled meeting of SFA's Faculty Senate for the 2021-22 academic year is planned for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, via Zoom. Visitors may attend at the beginning of the meeting; however, the business portion after the break is open only to faculty members.

President Scott Gordon and Dr. Lorenzo Smith, provost and vice president of academic affairs, are expected to provide updates. In addition to regular committee reports, the Senate will begin to outline committee work to address several items of interest that have arisen over the summer and the start of the semester.

Urbanism and nature collide in Brazilian street artist Fábio Gomes Trinade’s portraits.

After seeing a lush, 20-year-old acerola, he had a flash of inspiration. Trinade creates detailed portraits of women and children using the branches of trees and bushes as hair.
