Bishop recently gave two presentations about her dissertation, "The Experiences of Latino Adolescent Mentees," at the eighth annual Mental Health Conference, which was held by the Correctional Management Institute of Texas in Galveston.

Drs. Tonya Jeffery and Lauren Burrow, Department of Education Studies

Jeffery and Burrow co-presented "Linking Science and Literacy for Preservice Teachers through a Museum-University Partnership" at the School Science and Mathematics Association's virtual national conference.

The presentation by Jeffery and Burrow was based on service-learning work completed in partnership with their science and creative writing methods students, as well as Brian Wuertz and Dr. Shelby Laird of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville. This multistate work continues to be completed entirely via Zoom.

Faculty and Staff Breakfast slated for Wednesday

The next SFA Faculty and Staff Breakfast is set for 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in the newly named Eatery on East (formerly East College Dining Hall).

For a discounted price of $3, SFA faculty and staff are invited to enjoy an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast while catching up with colleagues and making new campus contacts.

The monthly Faculty and Staff Breakfast is brought to you by the SFA Social Events Team in the spirit of our “SFA Envisioned” strategic plan, which includes fostering a culture of engagement within our campus community.

The Office of International Programs is presenting "Global Gateway to Tunisia" at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in the Ferguson Building, Room 375.

Two international exchange students will give an informative and entertaining presentation on their home country. Everyone is welcome to attend in person or can join virtually via Zoom.

Art installation students to exhibit at Fire House Nac

Installation students in the School of Art will exhibit their installation artworks starting Friday, Nov. 5, at Fire House Nac in downtown Nacogdoches. “SFA Exhibition: Installation Art” will show through Nov. 20.

An opening reception is planned for 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Fire House Nac, located at 708 Swift St. The exhibition opening will feature the performance “Cocktails on the Veranda” by Catherine Pears with her character Virginia Lee Sutherlin at 6:30 p.m.

Cello Club to perform works by Elgar, Williams, Richter

The Cello Club will present “Abiding Melodies – Harry Potter Listening to Elgar” when the collaborative group of cellists from throughout East Texas performs at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in Cole Concert Hall.

An endeavor begun in 2014 by Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello instructor in the School of Music, Cello Club has brought together up to 40 cellists at a time to collaborate on various themed concerts.

“After a long interval of pandemic reflection, Cello Club will meet again on the beautiful SFA campus for yet another memorable performance,” Raychev said. “Cellists from near and far will collaborate together to create meaningful music with the abiding melodies of Sir Edward Elgar’s cello concerto.”
