SFA's MLK Day of Service scheduled for Jan. 17
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired thousands of people around the United States to make positive impacts in their community. To honor his legacy, SFA's Office of Multicultural Affairs is encouraging students, faculty and staff, and the Nacogdoches community to partake in this year’s MLK Day of Service.
“Nacogdoches is a college community filled with students from all over,” said Kori Lewis, OMA graduate assistant. “It also is home to many families native to East Texas. Therefore, it’s important for us to come together as a whole community and that our differences do not leave us divided. By participating in community service in Nacogdoches, SFA students and Nacogdoches organizations are closing that divide and showing there is strength in diversity.”
The annual event will take place Jan. 17, 2022. Interested participants can register online at sfasu.edu/OMA. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Baker Pattillo Student Center, followed by an introduction and address from a keynote speaker at 8:30 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom.

The Student Success Center's Generation Jacks program along with the First-Generation Organization collaborated with other departments and organizations on campus to host a weeklong celebration of events specifically for first-generation college students.
The week of events kicked-off on National First-Generation College Day, Monday, Nov. 8, where SFA first-gen students had the opportunity to receive a first-generation T-shirt and stop by resource tables to visit with departments/organizations and learn more about their programs and services.
The center would like to extend a special thanks to Kate Childress, who coordinated the week of events, and all departments and organizations who participated and hosted events throughout the week to make our first-generation college celebration a success.

Kay Winfield hired as first AARC writing and liberal arts program director
Winfield was hired to be the first program director for the Academic Assistance and Resource Center's writing and liberal arts program.
Since 1983, the AARC's writing and humanities programs were managed by separate directors. The AARC recently combined the two programs and capitalized on Winfield's efficiency and expert tutor training by naming her program director.
Winfield has previously managed for the AARC's writing program and stepped in during a program director's absence to assist with math services.
"Seeing Kay's ability to build relationships with faculty members while managing for math SI groups showed me that she needed a bigger role at the AARC, " said M.E. McWilliams, AARC director. "Winfield's hallmark management style is to foster friendship and teamwork in her tutoring programs."
Winfield can be reached at winfieldkl@sfasu.edu.

Did you know SFA faculty and staff receive a significant discount on athletic tickets, and that there is no limit on the number of tickets SFA employees can purchase?
According to Chris Bentley, SFA’s general manager of ticketing, faculty and staff can receive a discount of more than 50% compared to the general admission price, depending on seating location. Because there is no limit on the number of tickets an employee can purchase, SFA faculty and staff can purchase tickets for family and friends, although a child’s age will determine whether they need a ticket to enter and what kind. Children four years old and younger can get into sporting events for free. Children between five and 12 years old need a youth ticket, and children 13 years old and older need an adult ticket.
Faculty and staff can contact Bentley to place a ticket order at (936) 468-5504, (936) 689-5928 or Chris.bentley@sfasu.edu. Tickets purchased online will not receive the faculty and staff discount.

As majestic as wildlife photography can be, we’re also here for those perfectly timed shots capturing the goofy side of animals.
We also can relate on a spiritual level to this pigeon getting slapped by a leaf.
