NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Campus Climate survey to distribute today

A Campus Climate survey will distribute today to faculty, staff and students inviting the campus community to provide feedback on:

• the university’s mission, vision and goals as we seek input to renew the SFA Strategic Plan

• the climate around diversity, equity and inclusion on campus

• and student-only questions intended to fulfill the Texas Legislature’s requirement to gauge student satisfaction every two years.

Created in collaboration with multiple SFA offices and distributed by Hanover Research, respondent identities will remain completely anonymous.

Organizers also are offering participation incentives, including a $10 gift card for the first 400 student respondents; a $2,500 scholarship for the college with the highest percentage rate of faculty respondents; and a choice of gift packages for staff members in the office with the highest percentage rate of respondents.

To learn more, visit the Campus Climate survey website.

SFA Hillel to host Hungarian Holocaust survivor today
Doron

SFA Hillel will host guest speaker and Hungarian Holocaust survivor Ted Doron at 5 p.m. today in the McGee Business Building, Room 116. Doron, who will join via Zoom, will share his story and then engage in a Q&A with attendees.

Doron, whose father died in the German concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, was born in Budapest on Nov. 17, 1938. In 1956, during Doron’s last year in high school, he was able to escape to Austria after the border opened during the Hungarian Revolution. From there, he went to Israel, worked as a lab technician in Haifa, and served in the Israeli army for over two years.

Doron later emigrated to Montreal, where he worked in a lab and attended university at night. In 1965, he received a Bachelor of Science, married and had two children. He then attended the University of Rochester in New York in 1970 and received a doctoral degree in nuclear chemistry.

SFA regents approve initiatives and policy revisions

The Board of Regents met to discuss various campus initiatives, approving policy revisions and hearing reports during their recent quarterly meeting.

Judi Kruwell, interim vice president of finance and administration, gave a report on the 2022 budget status and an analysis of changes. She said that the previously reported budget deficit of $19.2 million has been revised to $8.6 million after taking into account contingency expenditures in the budget, housing revenues, investment earnings and other nonbudgeted revenue streams.
