LEADING LUMBERJACKS
Laura Donnell, admissions counseling coordinator, Office of Admissions

The SFA admissions and recruitment environment is fast-paced with so many moving parts between 15 in-house and regional employees. Donnell organizes recruitment inventory and distributes materials on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to the recruitment team. She manages the never-ending admissions emails arriving in the general account, supervises office student assistants and oversees all the external mailout requests from schools across Texas. She also is the go-to person when campus departments reach out for recruitment materials, and she makes sure all requests, big and small, are fulfilled.

“Laura's patience and kindness are extremely admirable and valued in our office,” said Emily Jefferson, director of undergraduate recruitment in the Office of Admissions. “Her calm, reliable, willing-to-help attitude in our crazy recruitment world should be celebrated! We’re lucky to have her on our team.”

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Comparison of Julius Caesar, George Washington subject of Department of History presentation
Brook Poston

Dr. Brook Poston, associate professor in SFA’s Department of History, will host a presentation titled “George Washington and Julius Caesar: Parallel Lives” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 102.

The talk will explore a comparison of Julius Caesar, the famed military and political leader of ancient Rome, and George Washington, United States military officer and first U.S. president.

According to Poston, the parallels to be discussed between Caesar and Washington are as soldiers, politicians and kings — or more accurately their relationship with the idea of kingship and monarchy. He’ll discuss the fall of the Roman Republic, the rise of the American republic and why one failed while the other succeeded.

University Marketing Communications has redesigned and updated the main university map, adding unique elements like one-way directional arrows, sidewalks and green spaces, among others.

The most updated map can be located on the University Police Department’s maps website by selecting “SFA Campus Map.”

UMC is also working with a company to produce an online interactive and 3D university map that will allow us to offer 360-degree virtual tours inside buildings, among many other features. The new online map is projected to go live sometime during the spring 2023 semester. An announcement will be made once that site is live.

SFA to present ‘The New Little Red Riding Hood’
Red Riding Hood

The Children’s Performing Arts Series at SFA will present “The New Little Red Riding Hood” in three performances Nov. 10 in Kennedy Auditorium.

Presented by Storybook Theatre, this adaptation of the timeless children’s story takes on a new environmental twist. Big Bad Wolf has retired as the forest's caretaker. His daughter, Wanda Wolf, is finding out she has big shoes to fill, especially when her BFF, Little Red, the great-great-great-granddaughter of the first Little Red Riding Hood, is trashing out the forest. Using Storybook Theatre's signature “edutainment” format, the forest comes to life as the audience interacts with Granny Red, Wanda and the forest animals to help Little Red understand what she's doing is wrong.

Danceworks

The School of Theatre and Dance will present the fall student-choreographed and student-produced Danceworks concerts Nov. 10-12 in the Lucille Norton HPE Complex.

The Danceworks concerts are choreographed by senior dance students majoring in dance education or performance and choreography, according to Heather Samuelson, SFA’s dance program director.

“This is the capstone course for all dance majors, and it is in partial fulfillment of the B.S. degree in dance,” Samuelson said. “The purpose behind these concerts is for each senior to demonstrate the skills learned throughout their collegiate career in preparation for their entry into the professional field of dance as performers, choreographers and educators.”
