NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
New name and website for virtual one stop

SFA’s virtual one-stop shop is changing its name from “SFA Axe Handle” to “SFA One Stop” as the office rolls out a new website.

The similarity of the name with axe handles in SFA traditions had led to confusion regarding the function of the office. Additionally, the name “SFA Axe Handle” yielded too many search results on internet search engines for students to be able to locate the new website easily. The updated name of “SFA One Stop” addresses both of these concerns.

The SFA One Stop will continue to be the primary phone contact for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Business Services, the Office of the Registrar, and Residence Life. Staff members support students by diagnosing cross-divisional problems and providing succinct solutions to those problems all in one stop.

Faculty Senate workload policy survey available

The Faculty Senate Professional Welfare Committee asks faculty members to complete this survey on the workload policies for teaching, research and service by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

If you do not have a Qualtrics account, select the SSO option and sign in using your SFA username and password. For questions, contact faculty senator or Dr. Rajat Mishra at mishrar@sfasu.edu.

Faculty Senate meeting set for tomorrow

The SFA Faculty Senate will hold a meeting at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in McGee Business Building, Room 133, and Zoom.

Members of the SFA community are welcome to attend the public portion of the session either in person or via Zoom. However, per senate rules, only invited speakers and members of the senate are permitted to speak during the session. Therefore, questions should be forwarded in advance to your faculty senator for potential consideration.

University Services Fee to increase in spring 2024

Beginning in the spring 2024 semester, SFA will increase the University Services Fee from $83 to $105 per semester credit hour. Based on an average course load, this will result in an increase of no more than 5% in tuition and fees. For example, a student taking a 12-hour course load will see an increase of $264, raising tuition and fees from $5,300 to $5,564.

The University Services Fee funds services and improvements, such as updated technology, renovated spaces, new buildings, increased safety and other features students need and enjoy.

View a list of fees charged to student accounts on the explanation of SFA’s tuition and fees webpage.

OIP to host Global Gateway to Nigeria

Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to the Office of International Programs' cultural presentation about Nigeria at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in Steen Library, Room 103.

The event will include a presentation led by an SFA international student from Nigeria who will introduce us to their country, traditions and lifestyle. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

For more information, contact Enrique Venegas at (936) 468-6604 or enrique.venegas@sfasu.edu.

UT Select Members invited to attend diabetes webinar

Join Omada and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for a question-and-answer webinar covering the foods that fuel immunity and information on prediabetes and diabetes. Attendees must register for the event, which runs from noon to 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.

The webinar will be recorded and available to view later if you are unable to attend. For assistance, contact Livia Pierce at employeewellness@sfasu.edu.

PAAC meeting scheduled for Thursday

Faculty members and professional advisors are invited to the Professional Academic Advising Council meeting from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Wyatt Room of the Steen Library.

Last chance for pizzelles and gelato
Pizzelle

"Go Italy" study abroad students are selling crisp pizzelles and creamy gelato to raise money for their upcoming trip, during which they will learn about local farming and small batch food production practices, traditional ways of food preparation, and the culture and lifestyle of those living the longest along the Mediterranean Sea.

The Italian pizzelle and gelato fundraiser choices include traditional and gluten-free pizzelles, as well as creamy vanilla and “Chef’s Choice” gelato. Orders will close Friday, Nov. 10.

To order, visit the product order page. Pick-up will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 16 at the drop-off location outside the Education Annex. On-campus delivery can be coordinated. All proceeds will directly assist the “Go Italy” students. To make a monetary donation, visit SFA’s giving website.

For more information about the products, contact the nutrition faculty leaders, Sarah Drake at drakes@sfasu.edu or Jill Pruett at pruettjs@sfasu.edu.
