Carney co-edited a collection of essays with Routledge Press, featuring a group of scholars from the United States and the United Kingdom. Titled "The Politics and Power of Bob Dylan’s Live Performances: Play a Song," this book examines Dylan’s music from various disciplinary perspectives, with a particular focus on how his live performances reflected the times and the tensions embedded at particular historical moments.

Co-edited with Erin C. Callahan, literature professor at San Jacinto College, this book offers a unique and interdisciplinary take on the significance of popular culture. In addition to co-writing the introduction, Carney contributed the essay “Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and the Implications of the Past: A Case Study.”
