School of Art to screen ‘Eat a Bowl of Tea’

“Eat a Bowl of Tea” is a study in cultural bridging. It’s the story of a U.S.-born new husband, trying to work within the traditional ways, and a China-born new wife, eager to join the "dream" of America, clashing with two family-minded fathers and gender-related “social bifurcations.”

SFA's Kantorei and Singin’ Axes choirs, directed by Dr. Tod Fish, will present the concert program “Open Your Eyes, Sweet Child” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in Cole Concert Hall.

The music performed will reflect texts from the perspective of children, according to Fish, associate director of choral activities for the SFA School of Music, who explained the theme of the concert is best summed up through a quote by composer Sarah Quartel: “The work asks the listener to see the tremendous potential present in our children. It celebrates love, beauty and the strength a child’s voice can bring to our troubled world.”
