Kyle Ainsworth, special collections librarian

Ainsworth’s research related to Texas runaway slave advertisements was mentioned in an article published by the Christian Science Monitor for Juneteenth. In the article, which discusses the Underground Railroad's southerly routes and Mexico's role in assisting escaped slaves, he spoke on the gravity of what the advertisements convey in the overall narrative of slave escape routes.

SFA has become the first institution in the United States to fly the Tecnam P-Mentor two-seat trainer airplane, equipping students with the most advanced training platform available in the country.

Human Resources to host hiring toolkit Zoom sessions

Human Resources is hosting in-depth sessions about the hiring toolkit. These sessions are for any staff or faculty who either serve on a committee or have hiring process responsibilities.

The last two trainings will be held at 10 a.m. July 3 and 10. Access Zoom links on the HR webpage under the "Professional/Personal Development" tab.

Stanley Center for Speech and Language Disorders to hold summer camps

SFA’s Stanley Center for Speech and Language Disorders is offering summer literacy and speech camps to children ages 4-11. Camps run from July 9 to Aug. 1 and range between $110 to $150.

Employee Wellness to offer yoga

Employee Wellness is collaborating with Campus Recreation to offer Restorative Yoga to faculty and staff at the Student Recreation Center, Room MP1.

Employees who do not have a Campus Rec membership can attend the yoga class from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Mondays from July 1 through Aug. 5. Upon arriving, bring your employee ID to the Campus Rec welcome desk. You will be signed in as an Employee Wellness non-member.

Friday Night Film Series to screen ‘Forrest Gump’
Gump

The SFA School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the Oscar-winning motion picture “Forrest Gump” at 7 p.m. July 5 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

Celebrating the endearing film’s 30th anniversary, the Friday Films committee plans to have film-related trivia questions and themed prizes before and after the showing.

Art lovers still have an opportunity to view winning entries in the 29th Texas National Competition and Exhibition, an annual show of the School of Art at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. The show ends Sunday, June 30.

SFA preparation provides win-win results for performers, audiences
Theatre

Jennifer Malmberg, lecturer in the School of Theatre and Dance and director of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” along with Jay Teamer, music director of the show, are collaborating for the second summer to present a high-energy, music-filled, sensationally staged show for audiences of all ages.

These directors rely on their educational backgrounds earned at SFA – hers in theatre and his in music – both preferring to approach summer repertory theatre more from an educational aspect than a performance one.
