Policy revised in Handbook of Operating Procedures

University policy 01-307 Title IX has been revised for legal clarification.

In accordance with 01-101 Handbook of Operating Procedures Administration, the university president has authority to approve/implement a provisional policy as necessary when federal or state laws, regulatory actions or compelling circumstances make expedited policy implementation prudent or necessary. This policy was approved by Dr. Neal Weaver, SFA president, effective Sept. 6.

Staff Council announces new officers and representatives

Staff Council has elected a new slate of officers for the 2024-25 academic year. Officers include:

• Chair: Brittany Beck, Orientation and Transition Programs

• Chair-elect: Ryan Dietrich, Physical Plant

• Secretary: Emily Keller, Rusche College of Business

• Treasurer: Choya Coleman, Information Technology Services

• Parliamentarian: Heather Hawkins, James I. Perkins College of Education

The newly elected representatives below will serve through Aug. 31, 2027. To provide fair representation, Staff Council seats are divided by occupational/Equal Employment Opportunity classification. Staff can see their EEO category by visiting the “Employee” tab of mySFA and clicking the "Look Up EEO Category" link.

Representative of Category 10 is Heather Catton. Representatives from Category 30 are Theunis Oliphant, Amy Mooneyham, Andrew Roybal-Cano, Jennifer Krause, Sydnee Seeton, Henry Wiederhold and Walter De La Cruz. Representative of Category 40 is Chase James. Representative of Category 50 is Enrique Venegas. Representatives from Category 60 are Craig Yates and Johnny Reed. Representative of Category 70 is Nadia Sifuentes.

SFA Gardens will host a fruit research field day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 featuring kiwifruit, muscadine grapes, blueberries, figs, feijoas and other fruits.

CCPD to host Accounting Career Fair
Accounting Career Fair

Faculty and staff are encouraged to inform students about the Accounting Career Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. This is an opportunity for students to connect with recruiters looking to hire for accounting internships and full-time opportunities.

Engineering physics program earns ABET accreditation

After years of establishing rigorous coursework and robust industry applications, SFA’s Bachelor of Science in engineering physics program has been accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology — the quality assurance organization focused on college and university programs in the science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.

Mechanical engineering program to undergo accreditation review

SFA’s mechanical engineering program will host its initial accreditation visit from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Sept. 15-17.

ABET accreditation is a prestigious credential that signifies a program meets the rigorous standards set by the profession and ensures graduates are well-prepared for engineering careers.

SFA Giving Day planned for Sept. 18
Giving Day

The Division of University Advancement invites you to give during the fourth annual SFA Giving Day, set for Wednesday, Sept. 18.

HR to offer hiring manager toolkit trainings

Human Resources is offering weekly, 30-minute training sessions at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays for the hiring manager toolkit beginning Wednesday, Sept. 18. These sessions are for any staff or faculty who either serve on a search committee or have hiring process responsibilities.

The first session presents an overview of the hiring process, and the second session reviews search committee expectations and rules.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Loran Rhodes, academic advisor in the Department of Agriculture
Rhodes

Rhodes, who is pursuing a Master of Social Work, was named National Association of Social Workers Texas Social Work Student of the Year.

Rhodes has served in various leadership positions, presented research at several conferences, helped initiate the NASW branch chapter in her area, and received the College of Liberal and Applied Arts Outstanding MSW Student of the Year Award in 2023. She also has received the 2024 Student Social Worker of the Year for the NASW Deep East Texas branch and was nominated for a leadership award by her peers.

Dr. Wycliffe Njororai, Department of Kinesiology and Health Science chair

Njororai will be a guest presenter at the 2024 International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance Africa Regional Conference at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.

He will virtually present “Bridging the gap between sport science and sport practice in Africa," which proposes ways to improve athletic performance on the continent.

Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts Permanent Collection opens tonight
Griffith exterior

The Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts will unveil its new permanent art collection, an exhibition that features selected works of art by current and former School of Art faculty and alumni, along with some special guest artists.

An opening reception, planned for 6:30 p.m. tonight in the second-floor lobby of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, will honor the artists, many of whom will be in attendance, to discuss their pieces selected for the showcase.
