SFA has been ranked the No. 1 regional public school in Texas and No. 18 in the Regional Universities West category in the newly released 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. SFA is tied for the top state spot with the University of North Texas.

ETRC to host humane society exhibit

The public is invited to celebrate 65 years of the Humane Society of Nacogdoches County at an exhibit hosted by the East Texas Research Center. The exhibit’s opening is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 11 on the second floor of the Steen Library.

In-person hiring manager toolkit training planned

Human Resources is offering two in-person hiring manager toolkit training sessions at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Multimedia Room 2.106. These sessions are for any staff or faculty who either serve on a search committee or have hiring process responsibilities.

The hiring toolkit can be found on the HR website under the "Managers" section.

CCPD to host All Majors Career Fair
All Majors CF

The Center for Career and Professional Development is hosting the All Majors Career Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand and Twilight ballrooms. Students of all majors and classifications are invited. Recruiters from a variety of industries will be looking to hire Lumberjacks. This event is free for students to attend, but professional dress is required.

To learn which companies will be attending and other details, visit the CCPD website. Resources for how to prepare and dress for a career fair are available at the CCPD in the student center, Room 3.302.

CTL plans AI in higher education discussions
AI CC

The Center for Teaching and Learning is hosting Coffee and Conversation with three informal discussions about generative artificial intelligence in higher education at 2 p.m. Oct. 11, Nov. 8 and Dec. 6 on the second floor of Steen Library. Those interested should RSVP.

Department to celebrate Earth Science Day

The Department of Earth Sciences and Geologic Resources will host an Earth Science Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Cole STEM Building atrium. This free event is open to the public and joins the American Geosciences Institute in celebrating Earth Science Week.

UTS-SFA Police Department to host National Night Out event today
Night Out

The University of Texas System Police Department at SFA will host its annual National Night out event from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Lot 3 between the Baker Pattillo Student Center and Kennedy Auditorium.

The event features free food, a bounce house and fun for the entire family.

Wellness fair slated for tomorrow

Student Wellness will host the fall Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

This free event will provide resources and services from a variety of SFA and Nacogdoches organizations and businesses. Attendees can learn about a variety of topics, including mental health, nutrition, physical well-being, sexual health and stress management, while sampling products and enjoying refreshments and giveaways. Faculty members and instructors are encouraged to bring or inform their class about the event.

Friday Night Film Series to screen ‘Gremlins’
Gremlins

The School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the classic comedy/horror film “Gremlins” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

The Friday Films Committee selected “Gremlins” to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary and kick off the spooky season.
