Social Work Day

The SFA School of Social Work organized a virtual collaboration titled "Global Social Work Perspectives: A Virtual Exchange Among Social Work Students" to commemorate World Social Work Day March 18. The event provided social work students with an opportunity to engage in a global discussion on critical issues in the field, explore cross-cultural perspectives and reflect on their career aspirations.

The event featured opening remarks by Dr. Freddie Avant, associate dean and director of the School of Social Work, and Dr. Mahbuba Sultana, professor and director of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. Students from both institutions shared insights on topics such as the relationship between human behavior and the social environment, key social work challenges in their respective countries, and their visions for making a difference in the field. The discussion concluded with closing remarks from Dr. James Morris, assistant professor and Bachelor of Social Work program director at SFA. Associate Professor Kristin Bailey-Wallace and Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammad Mostafizur Khan coordinated and moderated the event.
