Faculty Senate to meet May 7

The SFA Faculty Senate will hold a meeting at 2:30 p.m. May 7 in McGee Business Building, Room 133, and on Zoom.

Members of the SFA community are welcome to attend the public portion of the session either in person or via Zoom. However, per senate rules, only faculty senators are permitted to participate in the discussions during the meeting. Therefore, questions should be forwarded in advance to your faculty senator for potential consideration.

Lockheed Martin engineer to speak during spring commencement
Campos

Daniel Campos, Lockheed Martin quality engineer, will give the commencement address during SFA's spring graduation ceremonies for undergraduates May 8-9 in Johnson Coliseum. Campos received a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics from SFA in 2021.

Endowed Faculty Recognition Ceremony held today
Endowed Faculty Ceremony

Faculty and staff are invited to attend the Endowed Faculty Recognition Ceremony at 4 p.m. today in the Wright Music Building, Cole Concert Hall. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Public invited to Presidential Investiture Ceremony

SFA will formally celebrate Dr. Neal Weaver, SFA President, during the Presidential Investiture Ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1, in Turner Auditorium in the Griffith Fine Arts Building. During the ceremony, the president will officially be vested with the powers of the office, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in the university's history.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Dr. Deborah Buswell, associate professor, Department of Kinesiology and Health Science

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science held a retirement party for Buswell, who served SFA for 20 years, on April 25. Dr. Stacy Hendricks, interim dean for the James I. Perkins College of Education, lauded Buswell for her devotion, loyalty and longevity to SFA, leaving a strong legacy. Buswell also served as the program coordinator for the physical education teacher education in the department.

Dr. Mario Ajero, professor of piano pedagogy, School of Music

Ajero judged pre-college piano students at this year’s East Texas Music Teachers Association Achievement Auditions at The University of Texas at Tyler. Chosen students performed in the honors recital held in UT Tyler’s Braithwaite Recital Hall.
