SFA introduces Lumberjack Launch Guaranteed Admissions Program

SFA leaders and nearly 200 high school students from more than 15 regional partner schools promised to work together to achieve the students’ higher education goals during the introduction of SFA’s new Lumberjack Launch Guaranteed Admissions Program at a ceremony May 7 on campus.

Faculty members present axe handle to Health and Wellness Hub
Hub

Drs. John Stewart and Victoria Wagner-Greene, assistant professors in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, along with an undergraduate public health student, presented SFA's Health and Wellness Hub with a “Lumberjacks Care” axe handle to show support for individuals with substance use disorder.

The axe handle was created through a course assignment using the SFA Makerspace and will be on display in the Tucker Building.

Marine brass quartet featuring SFA alumnus to perform at commencement

For the first time ever, a quartet from the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve Band based in New Orleans will perform during SFA’s four commencement ceremonies today and tomorrow at Johnson Coliseum. The quartet features alumnus Danny Paxton, who earned his Bachelor of Music in 2013. They will play processional and recessional music as well as the national anthem.

Staff Council to meet May 13

Staff Council will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in McGee Business Building, Room 133, and via Zoom.

Korbin Pate, executive director for University Marketing Communications, will provide information about UMC services. A representative from Campus Recreation also will provide information about summer activities and programs available to faculty and staff. The meeting agenda is available on the meeting information page.

SFA Today to publish once per week during summer

SFA Today will reduce its normal two-day-a-week publishing schedule throughout the summer. Beginning next week, the faculty and staff newsletter will publish once each week on Wednesdays.

To have an article run in SFA Today, it must be submitted through the UMC Service Desk portal by noon the Tuesday prior to each week's Wednesday publication.

GSBA

SFA marketing and accounting faculty members are now leading the Global Sport Business Association after the retirement of its founder, Warren Whisenant.

Dr. Jason Reese, acting dean and associate professor of marketing; Dr. Janet Jones, associate professor of accounting; and Dr. Raymond Jones, associate professor of marketing, established the Global Business Innovation Association, an independent, nonprofit organization that provides strategic oversight and support for GSBA’s academic conferences and its journal, the Global Sport Business Journal.

The Global Sport Business Journal’s editorial team is composed of SFA faculty members led by Dr. Robert McDermand, senior lecturer of sports business, alongside an editorial review board featuring scholars from around the globe. SFA’s ScholarWorks platform now hosts the journal.
