NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Volunteers needed for Showcase Saturday

The Office of Admissions is looking for volunteers for the June 7 Showcase Saturday. The shift options are 9 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m. or for the entire event. This is an excellent opportunity to be visible to future Lumberjacks, their families and the campus community. Those interested can sign up using the volunteer form.

Meet with a TIAA financial consultant

As part of SFA’s retirement plan, all faculty and staff can schedule free sessions with a TIAA financial consultant. Joy Doss, senior financial consultant at TIAA, will be available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. June 3-4 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 2.405, to meet with you one on one.

She can help you with the following questions:

  • Am I invested in the right mix of investments to help meet my goals?
  • Am I saving enough to create the retirement income I need?
  • How do I take income from my retirement account once I stop working?

RSVP today, as space is limited. Register for sessions by visiting tiaa.org/schedule or by calling (800) 732-8353 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays. Be sure to take your investment, retirement and savings financial statements to your one-on-one session.

For more information, contact Barbara Hunter, benefits manager, at hunterbg@sfasu.edu or ext. 3978.

ETRC to host record preservation lab tomorrow

The East Texas Research Center will host a record preservation lab led by Kyle Ainsworth, special collections archivist, at 4 p.m. tomorrow on the first floor of Steen Library.

Participants will explore the county records preservation program, including how county officials and archives collaborate to save state history, the types of records being preserved, and how researchers can access them. This is essential knowledge for genealogists, historians, and oil and gas researchers. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Attend in person or via Zoom. Register here.

New collection added to ETRC digital archive

The East Texas Research Center collaborated with the Department of Earth Sciences and Geological Resources to add a digitized collection of their in-house paleontology specimens.

Kandace Muniz '25 photographed and cataloged over 1,600 specimens for her Master of Science project.

Those interested can view the collection online. The collection will be hosted by the ETRC and maintained by Dr. Mike Read, lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences and Geological Resources.

Muniz's project is the first of its kind to be hosted on the ETRC’s digital archive, as it was created by an SFA student. The center is open to more collaborations with other SFA students, staff and faculty. For more information, contact Candice Cloud, outreach archivist, at candice.cloud@sfasu.edu.
