Art Academy, Pre-College Art Academy to host exhibitions

The Art Academy will host an exhibition at 4 p.m. Friday, June 13, to display the works of young artists in grades 1-8. The Pre-College Art Academy will host an exhibition at 4 p.m. Friday, June 20, to showcase the works of artists in grades 9-12. Both exhibitions will be in the front gallery of the Art Building on Wilson Drive.

The academies and exhibitions are made possible by the art education program under the guidance of Denise Stringer Davis, assistant professor of art education. For more information on art and design summer programs, visit SFA’s summer camps webpage.

Campus Recreation to host Summer Music Series

Want to relax by the pool with live music? Stop by the first event of Campus Recreation's Summer Music Series featuring music from Johnny Mullins from 5 to 7 p.m. June 20 at the Student Recreation Center pool. If you can’t make this one, the next Summer Music Series concert will be July 11.

The Summer Music Series concerts are free for Campus Recreation and pool members, $5 for non-members and free for children 4 and younger.

Lifelong Learning Conference

The Department of Education Studies will host the 2025 Lifelong Learning Conference June 27 to devote time to the art and practice of teaching and learning.

This event offers a unique opportunity to connect with local educators and SFA alumni, explore innovative pedagogies and engage with timely research on what works in diverse learning environments.

This year's keynote presentation features speaker Larrian Menifee, SFA alumnus and two-time Grammy Music Educator Award semifinalist.

Register by June 13 to secure a T-shirt and parking pass. SFA employees and students can register for a reduced price of $30, which includes the T-shirt and lunch. Current SFA students can register for free (does not include T-shirt or lunch) to come and go the day of the conference. Registration closes June 23.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Dr. Jason Bruck, associate professor of biology

Bruck, a dolphin communication expert, was quoted in National Geographic discussing the potential for dolphin whistle language, specifically the use of nonsignature whistles, which are a less well-known class of dolphin vocalizations that may have potential for language-like meaning. Bruck focused on these whistles as part of his 2013 dissertation.
