Join the Master Plan Steering Committee to see the latest progress on SFA’s Campus Master Plan during a come-and-go viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents' Suite B. The committee also will make a presentation to campus at 5:30 p.m.

SFA sets new fall enrollment record
SFA kicked off the 2025 fall semester Aug. 25 with its largest first-time undergraduate class ever. The university also celebrated its first increase in total enrollment since fall 2018.

SFA to honor 2025 alumni award recipients, athletics hall of fame inductees at new Lumberjack Legacies celebration
SFA will honor its 2025 alumni award recipients and SFA Athletics Hall of Fame inductees at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.
This year, SFA’s Division of University Advancement and Department of Athletics have joined forces to launch a new event format and name: Lumberjack Legacies. The spirited evening will honor the accomplishments and impact of SFA alumni.

Graduate athletic training open house planned
The graduate athletic training program will host an open house from 4 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Norton HPE Complex, Room 201.

Hendricks completes two books, presents research in Morocco
Dr. John Allen Hendricks, professor and chair of SFA’s Department of Media and Communication, presented research in May at the Global Communication Association conference in Casablanca, Morocco, related to two books he recently completed.

Complete motorized utility vehicle training before driving MUVs on campus
|
|
Motorized utility vehicle training is mandatory for all faculty, staff and student workers who drive MUVs on campus. These vehicles include electric, gas and diesel-powered carts, mules and gators or golf carts.
To complete the training, visit the Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management Department website and select “MUV Training” under “Emergency Resources & Quick Links.”
• Read the entire page carefully, including all safety requirements for operating an MUV on campus.
• Note the consequences of noncompliance.
• Complete the highlighted area at the end of the training program and click “Next Page.”
• Fill out all fields on the following page and select “Submit.”
Documentation of your training program completion will be sent to the Safety Department, and an MUV driver carrying card, which is valid for three years, will be issued to you within three to five business days upon completion. Print a copy of the training acknowledgment to carry with you until you receive the carrying card.

Faculty discussion group sets fall dates
Faculty members are invited to semimonthly meetings to discuss topics impacting faculty welfare, academic affairs and policy.
The Ale in Favor? Faculty Discussion Group is an open discussion space for faculty to talk about topics impacting them. Meetings will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. at Fredonia Brewery, 138 North Mound St.
Those who cannot make it in person can join on Google Meet.
Dates for the fall are Sept. 10, Sept. 24, Oct. 8, Oct. 22 and Nov. 12.

Amy Roquemore, professor in practice of media and communication/director of The Pine Log
Roquemore recently was named secretary of the board of directors for the College Media Association and will serve in the role through October 2026. As secretary, she oversees the organization’s bylaws, College Media Review journal and elections committees and serves as the board’s liaison to the Communication Committee. CMA is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to serving college media advisors and the students they support. With a long-standing history of advocating for student press rights and strengthening journalism education, CMA brings together a diverse community of professionals who guide, teach and inspire the next generation of media leaders.

Amanda Breitbach, associate professor, School of Art
Breitbach was recently profiled by the photography magazine Lenscratch for her work as an educator and artist. Lenscratch’s Photography Educator series celebrates educators by publishing interviews about their artwork, ideas and insights.
The magazine shared several series of Breitbach’s photographs, including her current project Oil and Water, which examines the Texas coast. The publication also shared images by current and former students of the SFA photography program, including Ginger Gore Russell, Austin Cullen and D’Marcus McDowell, who provided testimonials about Breitbach’s mentorship.

Department of Mathematics and Statistics
SFA’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics kicked off the semester by welcoming more than 300 students. Before the first day of fall classes, faculty members and volunteers gathered outside the Bush Mathematical Sciences Building to host a special welcome event designed to ease first-day jitters and build connections with students. Guests were greeted with freshly popped popcorn and cold water before being guided through the building to explore their classrooms and learn the layout.

Generation Jacks, Cole Student Success Center
GenJacks is an academic learning community designed for first-generation students, meaning their parents or guardians did not graduate with a bachelor’s degree. This fall, GenJacks welcomed its largest cohort yet, with more than 130 students beginning their journey at the two-day Summer Leadership Academy. Students explored how to navigate college life, learned about campus resources and began forming connections that foster a strong sense of belonging.

Mechanical engineering degree program
SFA’s Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering program has been officially accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, under the Engineering Accreditation Commission, through 2030. This milestone affirms that SFA’s mechanical engineering program meets the quality standards that prepare graduates to enter the global workforce.
This achievement reflects the dedication of SFA’s faculty, staff and students, and underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in engineering education.

Students from area schools and families from the community are invited to the 2025-26 Children’s Performing Arts Series hosted by SFA’s Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts. Performances for each of the four touring productions will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building.
