SFA Gardens to celebrate 40 years of growth
SFA Gardens 40th anniversary

What started as a quarter-acre plot planted by SFA students behind the Agriculture Building in 1985 has blossomed into six themed gardens encompassing 138 acres. To celebrate, SFA Gardens is hosting its 40th Anniversary Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 throughout its gardens.

All Majors Career Fair scheduled for Oct. 15
All Majors Career Fair

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage students to attend the SFA All Majors Career Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

This event assists students with their professional development and helps make them more marketable. Students in all majors and classifications can gain valuable networking experience.

If you are interested in offering extra credit to students who attend, contact the Career Center at careercenter@sfasu.edu or ext. 3305 to track attendance for you.

Staff and faculty are also invited to attend to connect with employers in their industry and hear what they're looking for in new hires. Be sure to wear your SFA name tag.

Registration Rally set for Nov. 6

SFA’s fall Registration Rally will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Lumberjack Learning Lab on the first floor of Steen Library.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to tell students about the event, which is intended to offer students a one-stop opportunity to receive help clearing holds and registering for the summer and fall 2026 terms.

Representatives from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Business Services, Office of the Registrar, and the Cole Student Success Center, among others, will be ready to offer one-on-one assistance. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.

OIP to host presentation on Malaysia today

Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to the Office of International Programs’ global gateway presentation on Malaysia at 3 p.m. today in Steen Library, Room 103. The event will include a presentation led by an SFA international student from Malaysia who will introduce attendees to their country, traditions and lifestyle.

School of Nursing to administer free flu shots

Free flu shots are available to the public from noon to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, during the flu vaccine drive-thru event at the DeWitt School of Nursing Complex.

Sponsored by the School of Nursing and East Texas Community Health Services, the event offers standard influenza vaccines to anyone age 4 and older. Level 4 nursing students will administer the vaccines.

Faculty forums slated for today and Nov. 12

SFA Faculty Forum events offer faculty members a chance to discuss important issues and relay timely information. The next two forums will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. today and Nov. 12 in McGee Business Building, Room 133. If you are unable to attend in person, you can attend via this Zoom link.

Ale in Favor? Faculty Discussion Group to meet today

Ale in Favor is an independent initiative for faculty to meet off campus in an open discussion space to talk about topics impacting faculty welfare, academic affairs and policy.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
John Sullivan, lecturer of mathematics
John Sullivan AARC Bravo

Sullivan received the AARC Bravo Award for his ongoing support of supplemental instruction. One tutor shared that his promotion of her SI group for his class was so consistent and enthusiastic that the tutor had to divide the group into two different groups to accommodate all the students who wanted to attend.

Sullivan also encouraged individual students to use the AARC walk-in table for his course, believing that help-seeking is an essential habit to improve a student's success.

Meredith Baily, director of enterprise applications, Information Technology Services

Baily was recently interviewed for the National Association Educational Procurement's journal for her work as a project manager. She emphasized the importance of considering the human variable when implementing software.

Her interview can be found in the fall 2025 issue of the Educational Procurement Journal.

SFA has a full calendar of events for Homecoming 2025, including the annual bonfire, drone show and concert featuring award-winning country duo Maddie & Tae beginning at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Intramural Fields.
