SFA’s ‘College Tour’ episode to premiere Oct. 21

A viewing of Amazon Prime Video's "The College Tour", featuring SFA will be shown at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. Admission is free. Enjoy popcorn, meet the students featured in the episode and present participants can enter for a door prize.

SFA launches Entrepreneurship Faculty Fellows Program

The Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship selected 16 faculty members to participate in the inaugural Entrepreneurship Faculty Fellows Program, an initiative designed to integrate entrepreneurial education across all academic disciplines.

Procurement and Business Services to host Vendor Fair

The 2025 Vendor Fair will be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. Representatives for IT equipment, promotional items, office furniture, travel services, copiers and more will be available.

Bring your business cards to enter into vendor giveaways. Prizes include an RTIC cooler, two $100 gift cards to Texas Roadhouse, Amazon gift cards, Fujifilm Instax Max Mini 12 camera bundle, Ozone Generator, SFA swag and more.

James Adams, associate professor and director of SFA's sound recording technology program, was named a recipient of The University of Texas System’s 2025 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. The recognition marks the first time an SFA faculty member has received the award since the university joined the UT System.

ORGS to offer training sessions

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies will host multiple workshops for faculty and staff throughout the fall. Participants will learn how to navigate the grant lifecycle, from finding funding to managing awards.

Introduction to Cayuse Fund Manager: 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 in Boynton Building, Room 108 and Zoom. This workshop introduces you to the new Cayuse module designed to help you effectively monitor your external grant expenditures.

Grant Writing: Give Me the Details Please: 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 30 in Steen Library, Wyatt Room. Move beyond the basics and learn best practices for crafting a compelling proposal. This workshop covers key elements like budget considerations and the SFA proposal approval process.

Forecasting in Cayuse Fund Manager: 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 in Boynton Building, Room 220 and Zoom. Master the art of planning your project spending. This session will show you how to create forecasts, projections and dedicate funds by budget category within Cayuse. Those interested must have attended the "Introduction to Cayuse Fund Manager" training.

Women’s and Gender Studies research symposium slated for Friday

Students, staff and faculty are invited to attend the Women’s and Gender Studies Student Symposium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Steen Library, Wyatt Room.

Students from across disciplines will present research, posters, art and performances related to gender. In addition, Dr. Caroline Fache, associate professor at Rice University and keynote speaker, will discuss how intersectional identities transform struggle into creativity, resilience and joy from 11 to 11:50 a.m. East Texas artists and business owners will be in attendance to explore how art, business and community engagement can inspire future generations of creators from 1 to 1:50 p.m.

Suicide Prevention Lunch and Learn set for Oct. 22

Human Resources is hosting a Suicide Prevention Lunch and Learn from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Multimedia Room 2.106 next to Starbucks. Faculty and staff are invited to learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of suicide, understand varying levels of crisis, strengthen supportive communication skills and gain awareness of mental health resources.

Space is limited and a reservation is required.

Dr. Al Greule, associate professor emeritus in SFA’s Department of Media and Communication, has been named Broadcast Educator of the Year by the Texas Association of Broadcasters.

Proposals needed for Gateways, Not Gatekeepers

The James I. Perkins College of Education's Access and Opportunity Committee invites all faculty and staff to submit proposals for Gateways, Not Gatekeepers: Empowering Faculty Access and Growth, a professional development event. Proposals are due Jan. 11 and the event is from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 27.

Share your expertise in a 20-minute “speed learning” roundtable session focused on making SFA’s professional, research and development opportunities more accessible. Topics may include grant writing, faculty awards, study abroad, IRB submissions, campus resources and more. Those interested should submit proposals using the submission form.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Dr. Keith Hubbard, professor of mathematics and statistics

Hubbard and his student, Sheilla Amponsah, published an article in "New Frontiers in Data Science" by Springer. The article, "Feature Engineering on LMS Data to Optimize Student Performance Prediction", describes efforts to predict student outcomes based on their D2L usage.

SFA celebrates Homecoming with calendar full of events
Homecoming Maddie & Tae

SFA has a full calendar of events for Homecoming 2025, including the annual bonfire, drone show and concert featuring award-winning country duo Maddie & Tae beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Intramural Fields. Faculty and staff are invited to pick up an official SFA Burn Shirt today and tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Homecoming Headquarters near the Ferguson Building. To get a shirt, those interested must answer a SFA trivia question.

The Office of Student Engagement will host a Homecoming Blood Drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents’ Suite A and B. Donors can pre-register for an appointment and complete the registration form online.
