National Association of Interpreters student chapter to host Bioblitz
bioblitz

Join the SFA student chapter of the National Association of Interpreters for its Bioblitz event from 3 p.m. Friday, April 17, to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

The objective of a Bioblitz is to find as many species as possible at an identified location for a designated amount of time. This come-and-go event features 24 hours of flora and fauna identification using iNaturalist, a free software app for recording nature observations. Participants 13 and older can join iNaturalist and become citizen scientists.

No experience is required to participate. Every observation can contribute to biodiversity science, from the rarest butterfly to the most common backyard weed. Findings are shared with scientific data repositories to help scientists find and use the data.

OIP to host presentation on Canada tomorrow

Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to the Office of International Programs’ global gateway presentation on Canada at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Steen Library, Room 103. The event will include a presentation led by an SFA international student from Canada, who will introduce attendees to their country, traditions and lifestyle.

For more information, contact Enrique Venegas at enrique.venegas@sfasu.edu or ext. 6604.

The School of Art and SFA Gardens are partnering to launch a new sculpture walk that will add works of art to one of East Texas' most beloved natural spaces, the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

An opening reception for the “Sculpture in the SFA Gardens” exhibit will be held in the garden from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, during which time you can meet with the artists and learn about their work and inspiration. School of Art and SFA Gardens representatives will present a brief talk at 3 p.m. in the garden's Council Ring.

Beginning in 2027, 10 artists from Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, including SFA students, will be selected each year to showcase their sculptures in the annual exhibition. In this inaugural year, works of art selected from current and former faculty members, students and local artists are displayed.

To learn more or support the project, visit the “Sculpture in the SFA Gardens” webpage.
