President to address graduates at summer commencement ceremony tomorrow
Dr. Neal Weaver, SFA president, will deliver the commencement address to all bachelor's, master's and doctoral candidates during SFA’s summer commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Johnson Coliseum.

Staff Council to meet Aug. 11
Staff Council will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in McGee Business Building, Room 133, and via Zoom.
Grace Saldana, associate director of event services, will discuss the new reservation system for the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

SFA Gardens lecture to examine decline of post oaks
SFA Gardens will host "Postmortem: The Decline of Post Oaks and an Entire Ecosystem" by Dr. Greg Grant, Smith County horticulture extension agent with Texas A&M AgriLife, from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building.
Part of the Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series, Grant's presentation will cover the description, evolution, coverage and plants of the post oak savanna in East Texas and detail the reasons for its decline.
A plant raffle will follow the presentation. Parking is available at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center or next door at Raguet Elementary School.

Fall 2026 LEAP applications available
Fall 2026 LEAP applications for eligible participants — SFA employees, their spouses and dependents — are now available in mySFA.
The application form can be accessed in the “Benefits” section of the "Employment" tab. Approved LEAP exemptions will be applied to eBills starting Aug. 14. Financial aid may affect your LEAP benefits. Refer to the LEAP procedures for further explanation.

Drs. I-Kuai Hung and Brian Oswald, professors, Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture
Join the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture to celebrate the retirements of Hung and Oswald from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Human Services Building atrium.
Hung and Oswald are celebrating 26 and 30 years of service to the university, respectively. They each have made a meaningful impact on students, colleagues and the university community through their leadership, teaching, research and mentorship.
Stop by the come-and-go retirement celebration to thank them for their many years of service and wish them all the best in this exciting new chapter.

Dr. Roslyn Fraser, associate professor of sociology
Fraser collaborated with Dr. Vijaya Coolen and Mr. Sanjay Bhundhoo at the University of Technology, Mauritius, to organize a national workshop marking World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The event, "Trafficking and Labour Exploitation in Mauritius," brought together university leaders, government officials, the Mauritian police force, International Organization for Migration officials, students and civil society members to learn practical ways to recognize human trafficking and challenge common misconceptions about trafficking victims.
In addition to organizing the event, Fraser participated in the panel discussion on preventing trafficking and labor exploitation in Mauritius through cross-sector collaboration.

Dr. Wycliffe Njororai, Department of Allied Health Studies chair
Njororai, along with co-authors Damilola Atanda and Muswamba Mwamba, published a book chapter exploring the intersection of sports, politics and national identity in Tanzania.
Titled “Julius Nyerere to John Magufuli: Anti-Westernism, Self-Reliance and Strategic Weaponization of Sport in Tanzania,” the chapter appears in "John Pombe Magufuli," edited by Bill F. Ndi. It analyzes how Tanzanian leaders historically leveraged athletics to foster anti-Western sentiment, promote ideological self-reliance and advance strategic political goals from post-independence to the presidency of John Magufuli.
