SFA will honor its 2026 alumni award recipients and SFA Athletics Hall of Fame inductees at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at The Fredonia Hotel.

This year’s alumni award honorees are Emily A. Parker, Distinguished Alumni Award; Zachary Taylor, Outstanding Young Alumni Award; and Blake Westmoreland and Tish Wright, Lumberjack Pride Award. The SFA Athletics Hall of Fame inductees are Sanford “Sandy” Miller and Ashley Monteau.

The Lumberjack Legacies ceremony, which is open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception followed by the program at 7:30 p.m. The deadline to purchase tickets is today.

The Office of Admissions is seeking volunteers to greet guests, provide directions around campus, answer questions and create a great experience for prospective students and their families during the Oct. 3 Showcase Saturday.

The shift options are 9 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m. or for the entire event. Those interested can sign up using the volunteer form.

The acclaimed PBS documentary “The Neches River: Wild Heart of East Texas” will be featured in a public screening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Griffith Fine Arts Building, Turner Auditorium.

Steen Library will host an exhibit to celebrate Constitution Day throughout the day tomorrow in the library's lobby. Free booklets of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence will be available as well as other resources.

Friday, Sept. 18, will be SFA’s 103rd birthday. Faculty, staff and students are invited to come celebrate.

Cake, cupcakes and more will be available for all from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Spirit Lounge and the first-floor walkway.

Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to the Office of International Programs’ global gateway presentation on Spain at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in Steen Library, Room 103.

Global Gateway presentations are hosted by SFA international students to help faculty, staff and students explore the culture, traditions and people of a country while connecting with members of the SFA community.

The Center for Teaching and Learning has opened registration for the courses to earn an Effective Teaching Practices certificate through the Association of College and University Educators.

The certificate includes four asynchronous online courses offered between October and July that each last six to eight weeks. If you're interested, complete the ACUE participation form or email Cynthia Kilpatrick, CTL director, at cynthia.kilpatrick@sfasu.edu.

CTL also still has a few seats available for “AI and Assessment: Designing for Integrity and Learning,” offered through the Online Learning Consortium. Participants will explore practical strategies for designing AI-resilient assessments that promote trust, foster ethical student use of AI and highlight genuine student thinking and creativity. Faculty and advising staff are asked to inform students about an interest meeting on the “Exploring the Netherlands: Culture and Natural Resources” study abroad Maymester course at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the Agriculture Building, Room 118.

Students will hear from previous participants on their experiences, view a short presentation on the itinerary and estimated cost, and ask questions of the course instructors.

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage undergraduate and graduate students who have conducted research related to women’s and gender studies to submit their projects for the annual Women’s and Gender Studies Research Symposium from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in Steen Library, Wyatt Room.

Presentation formats include papers, panels, roundtable discussions, scholarly posters, performances and visual art. The interdisciplinary symposium welcomes submissions from all majors and fields.

This April, the Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship will host the inaugural SFA One Hundred Awards Celebration, recognizing the fastest-growing Lumberjack-owned or operated businesses in the world. SFA faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members are encouraged to nominate a Lumberjack business for this award. If you know any SFA alumni who own or lead a growing business, nominate them by Nov. 1 using the form on the SFA One Hundred website.

ACE also maintains the Lumberjack Alumni-Owned Business Directory, created to celebrate Lumberjacks doing business with Lumberjacks. The directory, which features more than 300 businesses so far, is open to SFA alumni who would like to list their businesses. They can sign up using the business submission form on the Lumberjack Alumni-Owned Business Directory website.

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage students to pitch their ideas at the 30-Second Startup Pitch Competition from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 29 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Spirit Lounge or through the recorded pitch online submission form. Open to all SFA students regardless of major or classification, the competition gives future entrepreneurs an opportunity to turn a business idea, side hustle or startup concept into a 30-second pitch.

The top idea from each college will receive $1,000 in scholarship funds and automatic acceptance into the spring Lumberjack Entrepreneurship Competition. Students also have the opportunity to compete for an additional $3,000, $2,500 or $2,000 in scholarships for first, second and third place overall, respectively.

Shoemaker received the AARC Bravo Award for strengthening the connection between students and AARC resources and helping the center reach students in meaningful ways.

Last year, Shoemaker helped organize "Pizza With Accounting Professors" in the AARC to provide a space where students felt comfortable talking to their professors.
