SFA community members joined local leaders to launch Hunger Free Nacogdoches Sin Hambre, a coalition focused on organizing feeding resources within the county to meaningfully address food insecurity for those who are at risk.

Nguyen offers presentation on compassion science
Nguyen

Dr. Nghia Nguyen, professor in the Department of Education Studies, is available to present an interactive discussion and exploration of the science of compassion at classes and meetings. The session, "The Science of Compassion: Approaches for Professionals/Students and Its Practical Implications in Personal and Professional Settings," discusses mindful breathing, ego acknowledgement, gratefulness, forgiveness and selflessness. The presentation lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

During the last 25 years, Nguyen has incorporated compassion science into his former and current capacities as an early childhood classroom teacher in public schools and as a teacher educator in higher education.

Purchase Lumberjack Express meals in advance

This semester’s Lumberjack Express food truck meals are on sale for $8 online. Though available, walk-up meals are limited and sell out quickly. Ice cream will be available for walk-up purchase for $2.

The food truck will be stationed from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Sept. 28 on Raguet Street near the Cole STEM Building where the promenade ends.

Fall Family Day set for Sept. 25-26

SFA will host Fall Family Day Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26. From athletic events and planetarium shows to the farmer's market and Bingo at the Fredonia Brewery, Lumberjack families will be busy this weekend.

CCEE, Parenting Support Services to host clothing drive

The Center for Career Education and Exploration and Parenting Support Services are co-hosting a clothing drive to collect professional maternity clothing for the SFA Career Closet. Donations of new and gently used professional dress items will be collected through Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Find drop-off locations at the CCEE office in Steen Library, Room 203, and the Parenting Support Services office in Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 302D. There is also an Amazon wish list to purchase new items. For more information, contact ccee@sfasu.edu or sdas@sfasu.edu.

Dates set for faculty and staff breakfasts
food

Faculty and staff are invited to attend the monthly faculty and staff breakfasts. The breakfasts will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2 in Food Hall 1923 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

The cost to attend is $4 plus tax. Employees with a meal plan will receive a free swipe.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony for study carrel set for Sept. 30

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to unveil a family-friendly study carrel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Steen Library, first floor computer lab. Attendees will meet in the Wyatt Room before the ceremony.

The carrel, which allows parenting students a study space while caring for their child, was purchased as part of a grant from Better Together – Nacogdoches along with funds from the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. In collaboration with the university’s observance of National Student Parent Month, the event will recognize the challenges parenting students overcome for their education. Refreshments will be served.

Flu clinic available Oct. 1

UT Select and UT Care members can receive free flu shots and other recommended vaccinations at the Flu Shot + Plus Clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Tejas Room. Those interested need to register and print the consent form.
