ForestryWorks curriculum creates pathway in forestry
Dr. Matthew McBroom, chair of SFA's Department of Forestry, worked with Ted Stevens, Texas Forestry Association sustainability and education director, and Dr. Esther Campbell, assistant vice president of academic affairs at Angelina College, to create ForestryWorks, the first high school curriculum approved by the Texas Education Agency dedicated entirely to forestry and natural resources. The program is designed to rebuild a workforce pipeline as veteran timber employees retire across the region.
The program was piloted with students at Lufkin High School. Under the curriculum framework, students can earn an entry-level forest worker certificate before receiving their high school diplomas. Credits can then transfer to Angelina College and apply toward a four-year degree at SFA.

Event connects future teachers with paid classroom clinical positions
Thirty school districts visited SFA Sept. 3 to meet the next generation of Lumberjack teachers at the Meet the Districts event.
The event connected SFA teacher candidates with school districts for paid clinical teaching and residency opportunities, providing classroom experience while they earned a paycheck. Last year, districts invested $900,000 in SFA candidates to support degree completion and help build the future teaching workforce. Candidates also connected with district representatives to learn about placement opportunities, district cultures and pathways to full-time teaching.
